Keswick Launch Sailings
You will be taking a Keswick Launch to the western shores of Derwentwater to land at Hawes End, a few minute walk from the race start. Sit back and take in the spectacular views of the surrounding fells before the start of the race! There are two different start times so you will need to choose your ferry sailing time when booking your race. The start times of the races will be 09.00am and 10.00am. Each ferry will sail approximately 30mins prior to the start times – 08:30 (for 9:00am race), and 09:30 (for 10:00am race).
Please note; these times are subject to change and in the case of the ferries not being able to sail, coaches will take you to the start of the race.
Please also note; this is a private boat for competitors and is included in the entry price of the race.
Starting at Low Brandlehow, you will set off through beautiful woodland next to the shores of Derwentwater, once you’ve run through the Manesty Woods you’ll turn from south to north & take a short sharp climb up on to the flanks of Catbells for some excellent wide open trails.
This leads to the ‘Hawes End’ drinks station and then the flatter lands of Overside Woods, passing The Lingholm Estate on your right and taking forest trails until a short road section takes you through the village of Portinscale, across the suspension bridge and to the fields to the West of Keswick. An exciting and fast finish round the back of Crow Park will lead you into the Event Village where your family & friends will be cheering you on to your own personal victory.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
It is possible that events and courses at KMF Trail Running Weekend may need to be amended at short notice due to weather issues, water levels, road conditions or roadworks.
By nature, many of these factors are not possible to know well in advance. For each event there are a number of alternative options available which can be implemented at short notice. The organisers and race directors will always have athlete and spectator safety as the highest priority, and within that context will seek to provide the best possible experience.
All sporting events would be impacted if the Event Village has to be closed. In this instance, as long as circumstances allow, all starts and finishes would be relocated to Lake Road and Lakeside Car Park and the events operated as smoothly as possible. The 10km route would be re-routed through Hope Park (north of Crow Park) to finish on Lake Road.
The 10km course is extremely robust and will cope with most weather. The challenging factor with the 10km route can be the mode of transport from Crow Park to the race start at Low Brandlehow. On a general race day transport is via Keswick Launches across Derwentwater to the race start. Coach transport is a back-up option if strong winds or other weather means the launches cannot sail, with 4 coaches reserved in advance of the event to transport competitors to the race start.
A bad weather route will be published closer to the event if the course needs to be adjusted.
